Emma Gray Jewellery Art & Design

Unique, original handcrafted contemporary jewellery.

All precious metals are hallmarked by the London Assay Office and bear my maker's mark.

Over 25 years of experience working in silver and gold, setting gemstones, silversmithing, hot and cold enamels, horsehair, bead stringing and pearl knotting.

Rings, wedding rings, toe rings, cufflinks, earrings, pendants, bracelets and bangles, ecclesiastical and silver tumble cups.

My training is unusual.

A weekend course at West Dean College, West Sussex was my introduction to jewellery making.  I continued my studies in Thailand for 4 years with the help of local silversmiths & books.  Only very basic tools were available, others had to be made.  Silver grain was purchased from the supplier in Bangkok, then taken across to the smelting house where it was made into wire strips or sheets of varying thicknesses, then wrapped in newspaper ready for the 16 hour journey home to Koh Samui by train, bus & boat.

A course in etching and enamelling in Hammersmith broadened my skills.  A stone setting course at the School of Jewellery, Birmingham (BIAD) followed by one-to-one tuition in specialist stone setting honed my expertise.  Further mentoring with expert jewellers in England & New Zealand expanded my learning and capabilities.

For the past 15 years I have been working as a Silversmith and jeweller in the North East of England.

The Shift in Global Marketplaces

What's been quietly lost in the rush to scale.

Loss of Originality

Large online marketplaces have shifted toward mass-produced, generic, factory-line products, making it difficult to find unique, handmade items.

Quality Concerns

Relaxed verification standards on major platforms have led to issues with material integrity, such as fake silver, cheap base metals, and chipping platings.
