WHAT IS A HERKIMER DIAMOND?

Herkimer diamonds are not real diamonds. They are double terminated clear quartz crystals that are only found in and around Herkimer County, New York, and the Mohawk River Valley. They are called "diamonds" because of their clarity and beautiful natural faceting. Double-point quartz crystals are found in other places around the world, but only those mined in Herkimer County can be called Herkimer diamonds.

WHAT IS GOLD FILLED?

"Gold filled" (also called "rolled gold") is comprised of a layer of solid 14K gold which is permanently bonded to a base metal, usually brass. The layer of gold must be a minimum of 1/20th (or 5%) of the weight of the item.

Rose gold fill is created by alloying the gold with copper.

Gold fill is very hard wearing and will not peel or flake, unlike gold plate, under normal wear. It is therefore commonly used as an economical alternative to pure gold.
