Studio Jewellery Workshop

The Studio Jewellery workshop has been established for 30 years and has built up a reputation for the quality of fine jewellery made there. The flagship store and workshop is located in the picturesque seaside village of Fortrose, where the workshop looks out on to the 13th century cathedral.
The workshop has created bespoke jewellery for many well known customers over the years including designers such as Jasper Conran and Liberty of London. We also have our jewellery on The Royal Scotsman train, the Orient Express and in The British Museum. We have many happy customers who we have made one off pieces for, not least, Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother.

OUR JEWELLERY

The Jewellery is designed by award winning jeweller Susan Plowman who graduated from The Glasgow School of Art in 1987 with a honours degree in Jewellery and Silversmithing and has been in the trade ever since, Susan is a member of the National Association of Jewellers.

The Jewellery is made in Susan's workshop using recycled and ethically sourced silver and, when available, Scottish Gold from Tyndrum. The diamonds and gemstones are all conflict free and from ethical sources.

Susan Plowman is an avid bird watcher and naturalist and supports whale and dolphin conservation, with 20% from sales of her whale necklace going to the WDC. A percentage from sales of her ever popular puffin pendant goes to RSPB Scotland to support their work.

SPECIAL COMMISSIONS

To mark The Homecoming Year, Joe Gibbs, the founder of Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival, devised a competition to design and make a mouse, inspired by one of the Burns best loved poems. The competition was open to all UK jewellers and was won by Susan. Her entry piece was a mouse created in 18ct white gold covered in 184 natural champagne, cognac, pink and fine white diamonds with a black diamond eye. It is clinging to a solid 18ct yellow gold stalk of barley, and is 29.5g of yellow gold and 29g of white gold. The mouse is pictured left, inside its hand carved box with a quote from the poem "To a Mouse."

DELIVERY DETAILS

We keep stock of most of our collections in silver, and of our most popular designs in 9ct yellow gold. If an order is placed for an item we have in stock, we aim to dispatch it within 24 hours of payment (excluding weekends and public holidays).

However, as we have a large range, a number of our designs are made only to order.  We acknowledge every order by email and if an item cannot be delivered straight away we will provide an estimated delivery date.  If you have a specific deadline for your order – for example, a special occasion such as a birthday – please let us know.  We will do our very best to meet your deadline, or let you know if it is not possible to do so, allowing you to choose an alternative.

Dispatch times for items not in stock will be estimated for you at the time you order, but they are usually as follows:

  • Silver and 9ct yellow gold: four to six weeks
  • 18ct yellow gold: six to seven weeks
  • other metals: eight weeks

UK Deliveries

Postage and packaging for orders being sent within the UK cost £8.00.
All UK orders are sent via Royal Mail Special Delivery, and we make no exceptions. We have found this to be the quickest, safest method.
Signature is always required upon delivery.
Orders sent within the UK usually take 24 hours to be delivered once they have left our premises. Occasionally there are delays because of bad weather, or congestion in the postal service, but these are rare.

Christmas Delivery Dates

To avoid disappointment, please note that during our peak periods – November and December in the run up to the festive season – we encourage customers to place their orders as early as possible.  At this time of year delivery can sometimes take longer due to the increased demand, and slowing down of postal systems around the world.  Last order dates will be advised later on in the year.

Please note that we usually close on 4pm December 24th and re-open for business at 10am on January 9th.

The Shift in Global Marketplaces

What's been quietly lost in the rush to scale.

Loss of Originality

Large online marketplaces have shifted toward mass-produced, generic, factory-line products, making it difficult to find unique, handmade items.

Quality Concerns

Relaxed verification standards on major platforms have led to issues with material integrity, such as fake silver, cheap base metals, and chipping platings.
