My name is Dawn Farrington and I'm based in Bridgnorth in Shropshire where I've lived for over 30 years.

For as long as I can remember I’ve enjoyed trying all sorts of different crafts – Macramé, Spinning, Cake decorating, Bobbin lace making, Crochet, Knitting, Tatting, Candle making, Embroidery, Quilting……… Having said that I came to jewellery making via cake decorating. A friend asked me to go with her to night school and one of the skills which I learned was making sugar flowers. A little while later I came across Silver Clay and a lot of the techniques involved in my sugar work transferred well to this. From this 'Prime Elements' was born.

As part of the progression I revisited macramé and that led me to try Kumihimo braiding (a Japanese style of braiding). I have tried all sorts of materials from the normal rattail silks through horse hair and chain – I figure if it bends it braids! These experiments with horse hair resulted in me starting to make pieces for friends and family and then Hold Your Horse took on a life of it's own.

At Hold Your Horse I specialise in jewellery, and more, to help you keep your memories close. Most of my work is with horse hair and uses the art of Kumihimo braiding but the range is constantly growing as people ask me for different things. I hand-make all of the braids myself, I count each hair to ensure that the braids are just how they should be and to allow for the fact that hairs are not all the same. My range now also includes Sterling Silver pieces which are set with resin to keep memories safe. These enable me to add pet hair or horse hair which would be too short to braid.

Postage & Packing:

Completed pieces will be sent by Royal Mail Special Delivery which does require a signature

Postage & Packing cost is not included in the prices quoted on the website as the cost of postage is determined by the weight of the whole package - as at 16/02/2019 costs are £6.50 up to 100g and £7.30 up to 500g (as a guide a bracelet is normally just under 100g. If hair is returned with it the weight is normally then over 100g)

If you need your order in less than 2 to 4 weeks do get in touch as it may be possible, depending on how busy I am.

50% of the cost of an order is payable when the order is placed, with the remainder due on completion.

Does your Sterling Silver tarnish?   Summer months can be a nightmare for lovers of Silver, when, for no obvious reason, your Silver jewellery doesn't look as lustrous as it should. Here we explore some reasons why this happens.   First of all what causes the discolouration?   Silver turns black when kept in the air because it reacts with sulphur compounds such as hydrogen sulphide (H2S) present in air ...
