Best time to measure your finger is at the end of the day, when your hand is warm. This is because finger size changes according to temperature and time of day. For the same reason, is best to measure 3 to 4 times as to avoid a wrong measuring.
The ring needs to fit comfortably on your finger: not too loose, not too snug.
IF THE RING IS A SURPRISE:
You can try to ask close friends or relatives if they possibly know his/her ring size. Alternatively you can 'borrow' his/her ring (make sure it's from the correct finger) and use the printable ring sizing guide above.
