Ashes Memorial Jewellery

Ashes Memorial Jewellery

Ashes contained within items of Jewellery is an extraordinary concept growing in popularity and is an excellent way of creating a keepsake of a loved one that you will cherish forever.

Coming to terms with the passing of a loved one is a difficult task, so every bespoke item of cremation ashes jewellery will be sympathetically handcrafted by your Odissa designer/maker and each has it's own story, unique to the owner.

The process is generally simple and either created as an item where ashes can be viewed directly in the piece, either in resin or glass, or contained within a cavity or recess that is hidden from view so that the wearer knows it is there and takes comfort from that knowledge wearing it close to their heart serving as a way to hold their memory and spirit close.

Also as an extra embellishment to the piece, fingerprints, handprints and footprints can be added and even samples of handwriting can be scanned and engraved for extra effect.

This engraving process is easily performed using technology in the form of a laser engraver, which captures the minutest detail, or, as an alternative, a skilled hand engraver can recreate the exact detail, but finding an engraver skilled enough to do this is slowly becoming harder as the level of skill required slowly dies out over the years.

Another option to ashes where the deceased has been buried, is to embed a lock of hair in the piece and this is of increasing interest for pet memorial jewellery with dogs, cats and horses particularly popular at the moment.

How Much Does it Cost To Make Jewellery From Ashes?

The cost can vary enormously from maker to maker. Self fill, cost effective items for as little as a few £'s and made from base metals such as Brass or Stainless Steel can be found online as a simple way to carry around your loved ones ashes. At the other end of the scale, bespoke items of ashes memorial jewellery made by talented designer/makers can be created in precious metals and encrusted with stones to your own specifications.

If you have a design in mind, a number of Odissa sellers would only be too pleased to help you with your project - just search 'ashes' for a lst of makers specialising in this area.

Can Ashes Be Made in to Diamonds?

There are many companies online offering this service. Lab created diamonds are becoming very popular as an alternative to mined diamonds at the moment and the process is widely accepted, starting with a diamond 'seed' to start the growth cycle, however, we are highly sceptical that the companies claiming to be able to convert ashes into a diamond are genuine. You should investigate and research these claims rigorously before committing to spending any money in this area.

How Much Ash is Generally Needed to make Ashes Jewellery?

Very little in reality.

Please consult with your maker on this subject but mostly, only a teaspoon of ash is required and if you send more, any excess will more than likely be returned to you on completion of your order.

Forms of Cremation Jewellery

Memorial Jewellery holds the remains of your loved one and can be created from a loved one's hair, dried flowers or any small token of remembrance from the service as an alternative to ashes.

For example: rings, urns, cufflinks, keyrings, necklaces, earrings or bracelets.

Many wearers opt for either a necklace/pendant or a ring around the finger or on a chain but some items can be quite restrictive as to how much ash can be contained in them so, sometimes, only a token amount can be added.
